Maca in GlucoZen: The First Ingredient in the Blend, Explained
Maca root extract is listed first in GlucoZen's 200 mg proprietary blend, so it is the heaviest of 22 ingredients but has no printed amount. The most it can be is 200 mg per 1 mL. Maca has only a few small human trials, mostly on sexual function, and the evidence is rated limited (MSKCC: Maca).

The basics
What is maca, and why is it listed first in GlucoZen?
Maca (Lepidium meyenii) is a root grown in the Andes and eaten as a food. GlucoZen uses a maca root extract, and it opens the list of 22 blend ingredients.
First place matters. The FDA requires a proprietary blend to list its ingredients from most to least by weight (FDA Labeling Guide Ch. IV: proprietary blends). So maca weighs more than any other blend ingredient, though the label never says by how much.
| Label name | Maca (Lepidium meyenii) Root Extract |
|---|---|
| What it is | Lepidium meyenii, andean root |
| Position on the label | 1 of 22 in the blend |
| Per 1 mL serving | At most 200 mg (the whole blend, best case) |
| Amount used in research | Few small human trials, mostly not on blood sugar |
| Strength of evidence | Limited |
| Main use studied | Andean root food studied mainly for sexual function |
| Main caution | May not be safe in pregnancy, breastfeeding or hormone-sensitive cancers; can affect testosterone tests. |
Blend math
How much maca can one serving of GlucoZen hold?
Best case, up to 200 mg in each 1 mL serving. In practice it must be less, because 21 other ingredients share the same 200 mg.
Label order sets a ceiling for each ingredient. The k-th ingredient can weigh at most 200 divided by k milligrams. For maca, k is 1, so the ceiling is the whole blend.
- 200 mg
The whole proprietary blend in 1 mL. The label lists 22 ingredients, heaviest first, with no single amounts (FDA Labeling Guide Ch. IV: proprietary blends).
- about 9 mg
The average share if all 22 weighed the same: 200 divided by 22. Most real blends are uneven, so the first few are larger.
- 200 / k
The k-th ingredient can weigh at most 200 divided by k. Maca, 1st, can be up to 200 mg; gymnema, 8th, at most 25 mg; L-carnitine, 22nd, at most about 9 mg.
The most each ingredient can weigh in one 1 mL serving
- Maca≤ 200 mg
- Grape seed≤ 100 mg
- Guarana≤ 67 mg
- African mango≤ 50 mg
- Eleuthero≤ 40 mg
- Astragalus≤ 33 mg
- Green tea≤ 29 mg
- Gymnema≤ 25 mg
- Asian ginseng≤ 17 mg
- L-carnitine (22nd)≤ 9 mg
Best case, worked out from label order alone. Two servings a day doubles each figure. Chromium is separate: 0.7 mcg per serving (NIH ODS: Chromium fact sheet).
Twice-daily use doubles every ceiling. Maca's best case becomes 400 mg a day, while an even split would give each ingredient about 18 mg a day.
The evidence
What does research say about maca?
The research base is thin. Memorial Sloan Kettering lists only a few small human trials, mostly on sexual function, and says reviews rate the evidence as limited (MSKCC: Maca).
Few and small
Only a handful of human studies exist. Small trials give rough signals, not firm answers.
Sexual function, mostly
Most of that work looked at sexual function, not glucose, HbA1c or insulin.
No trial on file
Our sources hold no human trial of maca for blood sugar. We cannot quote one.
Broader expert advice points the same way. The ADA finds insufficient evidence to support routine use of herbal supplements to improve blood sugar (ADA Standards of Care 2026, Sec. 5).

The only firm number is the ceiling from label order. Everything else is either an estimate or not published.
| Measure | Per 1 mL serving | Per day (2 servings) |
|---|---|---|
| Best case from label order | Up to 200 mg | Up to 400 mg |
| If all 22 weighed the same | About 9 mg | About 18 mg |

Label vs marketing
Why is maca missing from the "Inside GlucoZen" graphic?

The brand graphic shows a different formula from the bottle. It features Okinawa honey, berberine HCl, cinnamon bark, resveratrol, turmeric and Bifidobacterium breve.
None of those appear on the GlucoZen label. Maca, which the label puts first, does not appear in the graphic at all.
We follow the label, because it describes what is in the bottle you receive. Read the side-by-side on label vs marketing.

Who should avoid maca in GlucoZen?
Some people should skip maca or talk to a doctor first. MSKCC says maca may not be safe in pregnancy, breastfeeding or hormone-sensitive cancers (MSKCC: Maca).
If you have, or have had, a hormone-sensitive cancer, ask your oncology team before taking any product with maca.
- Pregnancy and nursing: the GlucoZen label already says it is not for pregnant or nursing mothers.
- Lab tests: maca can interfere with testosterone tests (MSKCC: Maca). Tell the person ordering your bloodwork that you take it.
- Medicines: the label asks you to consult a physician first if you take a medication. Our sources list no specific drug interaction for maca.

Plain answer
Is maca a blood sugar ingredient?
Not on the evidence we have. Maca is a food root studied mainly for sexual function (MSKCC: Maca).
Its place at the top of a "Blood Sugar Support" blend reflects weight on the label, not proof of a glucose effect.

What is fair to say about maca in GlucoZen?
Maca is a familiar food plant, and it leads the blend by weight. The open questions are its exact amount and what it does for blood sugar.
In its favor
- A food-derived root, not a novel compound.
- The heaviest blend ingredient, so likely the largest share.
Open questions
- No printed amount per serving.
- No blood sugar trial in our sources.
FAQ
Maca in GlucoZen: common questions
How much maca is in GlucoZen?
The label does not say. Maca root extract is first in a 200 mg blend of 22 ingredients per 1 mL, so it can be at most 200 mg per serving and is likely much less. At 1 mL twice daily, the best case is 400 mg of maca a day.
Does maca help with blood sugar?
There is no human trial of maca for blood sugar in our sources. MSKCC lists only a few small human trials, mostly on sexual function, and rates the evidence as limited (MSKCC: Maca). The ADA finds insufficient evidence for herbal supplements to improve blood sugar (ADA Standards of Care 2026, Sec. 5).
Why is maca the first ingredient in GlucoZen?
Blend ingredients must be listed from most to least by weight (FDA Labeling Guide Ch. IV: proprietary blends). Maca appears first, which means it weighs more than grape seed, guarana or any other blend ingredient. The label does not give its exact weight, only its rank.
Can maca affect a testosterone blood test?
Yes. Memorial Sloan Kettering says maca can interfere with testosterone tests (MSKCC: Maca). If your doctor orders hormone bloodwork, mention that you take GlucoZen, since maca is the first ingredient in its blend, so the result can be read with that in mind.
Is maca safe if you have had a hormone-sensitive cancer?
Maca may not be safe for people with hormone-sensitive cancers, according to Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSKCC: Maca). Anyone with that history should ask their oncology team before taking GlucoZen or any other product that lists maca root. Take the bottle, or a photo of its label, to that appointment.
Can I take GlucoZen if I already use a maca supplement?
Ask your doctor or pharmacist first. GlucoZen does not print its maca amount, so you cannot add the two products up with confidence. The label also asks anyone who takes a medication or has a medical condition to consult a physician before use.
